PONY 14U is the transition league that takes players from the "kid" leagues to "young adult" status or from player to student-athlete. This level ready's the student-athlete for high school baseball and requirements to play including being a student above the established GPA.
It permits a player to play on a diamond tailored to their size and capability rather than being moved to one with twice the playing area in a single year.
PONY 14U is specifically designed for the player in those very formative early-teen years. The vast majority of players of league age 13 simply do not belong on a full-size diamond. At the same time, they have outgrown the dimensions of the "kids baseball" diamonds used in BRONCO LEAGUE and other "12-and-under" programs.
Skills we build upon include - leading off (left vs right-handed pitcher), game situations, proper throwing, increasing skills in catching (blocking, throwing on the run, cuts and relays, pickoffs, rundowns and being the leader), pitching (2 and 4 seam fastballs, change-ups and curveball, picking off), and situational hitting.
Teams are formed via a tryout based on the number of teams available. Players are also eligible for All-Stars tournaments in June-July to possibly include the Pony Northwest Regional in July.
